1951 Austin A40 Sport

1951 Austin A40 Sport

SORRY SOLD .Based on the A40 Devon saloon, the A40 Sports convertible was built between 1950 and 1953. Austin had agreed to supply engines for Jensen’s new Interceptor, and the West Bromwich firm was invited to produce a similarly styled convertible on the A40 chassis. Jensen not only designed and built the body, but was also entrusted with final assembly. The Devon chassis featured independent front suspension with wishbones and coil springs with a semi-elliptically-sprung live axle at the rear, a front anti-roll bar being added for the Sports. Boosted in power by means of a modified cylinder head and twin SU carburettors, the 1,200cc A-Series engine drove via a four-speed gearbox equipped with floor change initially and column change from August 1951. With 50bhp on tap, the Sports was good for a top speed of 78mph. Only 4,011 were built and the model is relatively rare today with few survivors on the road.

This example is a New Zealand new vehicle that has been the recipient of a restoration that sadly due to a change in circumstances has not been able to be completed. It would be fair to say that 80% of the work has been completed including new interior trim, door cards etc.

The registration has been allowed to lapse in the past so this vehicle is being sold with no registration. The original black plate is still with the car which will be helpful for re vinning when the time comes. My client’s loss is certainly your gain. Don’t miss this opportunity to secure a rare and very interesting British Sports Car.
