1956 VW Kombi

1956 VW Kombi Transporter

This is great looking early Kombi that is a true joy to drive. This vehicle has been the recipient of an engine rebuild along with an extensive refurbishment. Due to a change in circumstances for our client this vehicle is being offered to the market 90% finished. All the hard work has been done and big bills have been paid with minor interior work to finish, this is a great opportunity to personalize this special Kombi or complete the project to factory spec.

In 1947 Dutch Volkswagen Importer Mr Ben Pon sketched the very first drawings of the Kombi van and testing began on the Transporter prototype in 1949. In 1950 New Volkswagen CEO Heinz Nordhoff releases the first production model of the Kombi Van from a factory in Wolfsburg. Kombi Vans were produced in Wolfsburg until 1956. Known as the Type 2 version, the Kombi was considered the patriarch of contemporary cargo and passenger vans. The Type 2 model was unique in that it placed the driver directly above the front wheels of the Kombi and was rear- engined. The first generation of the Volkswagen Type 2 with the split windscreen, informally called the Microbus, Splitscreen, or Splittie among modern fans, was produced from 8 March 1950 through the end of the 1967 model year.

The Kombi is one of the great iconic vehicles of our time, with early examples like this one becoming very popular and extremely valuable.

This example is a must have for any VW or 356 Porsche collection. With possibilities as a very distinctive company promotional vehicle, or as a lovely addition to an existing classic collection.
