1961 Jaguar MK II

1961 Jaguar 3.8 MK II

Brilliant Barn find!!!! This car was covered in a thick layer of dust after being in dry storage in North Canterbury for a number of years. It is a pleasure to present such an interesting find to the market.

Sold new in Taihape, New Zealand in June 1961, the car then spent many years in the North Island before finally making its way to the mainland in 1968.

The car was repowered with a 3.8 on the 21/11/1985 by the well known Peter Scott of Nelson. In 1998 the car was purchased by a gentleman in Rangiora and has been a North Canterbury car since.

Compared to the Mark 1, appearance of the Mark 2 was transformed by an increase of 18% in cabin glass area, greatly improving vision. The car was re-engineered above the waistline, slender front pillars allowed a wider windscreen and the rear window almost wrapped around to the enlarged side windows, now with the familiar Jaguar D-shape above the back door and fully chromed frames for all the side windows. The radiator grille was amended and larger side, tail and fog lamps repositioned. Inside a new heating system was fitted and ducted to the rear compartment. There was an improved instrument layout that became standard for all Jaguar cars.

A large file accompanies the car full of invoices and history relating to the vehicle.

This car would be a great project for those inclined. The interior is very tidy with leather and carpets all in good condition. Paint is very average as seen in photos but the car generally seems solid. The car is being sold in ”AS IS WHERE IS CONDITION “ with registration on hold. Last WOF was issued in 2014.
