The Sport EVO was the final road version of the most successful word touring car and the most collectable M3.

As BMW’s M cars become progressively more computerised, with artificial engine noises, turbos and dual-clutch transmissions, the classics which embodied the purity that made the brand so desirable in the first place are becoming hot property on the collector car market.

This stunning 1990 E30 M3 Sport Evolution started its life in Verona, Italy and was imported into New Zealand where it has remained since.

Standard versions with a 2.3-litre, 143kW inline-four are desirable enough, commanding high prices. (One is currently on the market for AU$264,000.) However this example of the 2.5 Sports Evolution is a different beast being 1of 600 special editions produced making it a very special car that we believe is priced to sell.

The Sport Evolution was treated to a larger 2.5-litre engine developing 175kW, which is an astonishing specific power output for the time. Torque was around the 240Nm mark, which was more than adequate for a car weighing under 1200kg.

What made this version special was lighter glass, boot and bumper bars, additional cooling ducts in lieu of fog lamps and larger 225/45 R16 wheels. Suspension was also more substantial with a 10mm drop in ride height.

It is a well-known fact that the E30 BMW M3 is the most iconic BMW of all time and considered to be the best BMW of all time by most car enthusiasts. This is a rare opportunity not to be missed to purchase an outstanding vehicle. A vehicle of this calibre would make a great addition to any enthusiast’s collection or just a very astute investment in a fast moving international classic car market. These vehicles dominated Touring Car races for years back in the late ’80s and early 90’s and are predicted to dominate the collectors market in the years to come.
